100 Years Ago – 1920: Failure on the part of Leiperville property owners to provide foot passengers with the usual graded and paved sidewalk last night proved a contributing cause to another in a long string of accidents. Injured was Mrs. Kate Flynn, 69 years old, of Woodlyn and her niece, Mrs. Philip Hastings, 29 years old, of Fairview Road. Both women, who were afoot when the accident happened, had been attending a special service at St. Rose of Lima Church, and were on their way home, taking the bed of Chester Pike to travel on instead of the irregular footway. It was while thus proceeding that the automobile, driven by a man who gave the name of Shaddock, and the women collided, the pedestrians being knocked down and slightly injured.
