Viewpoint: Warehouse a poor fit for Luther Forest campus Peter Benyon FacebookTwitterEmail The Malta Town Board is considering a zoning amendment that would allow for the construction of 3.5 million square feet of “last-mile” warehouse/distribution space in the Luther Forest Technology Campus very near GlobalFoundries Fab 8. The proposal should be rejected. In the mid-2000s, in support of the Comprehensive Master Plan, the town of Malta heavily marketed the campus to Intel and others in the semi industry. Ultimately, the state and town were successful in persuading Advanced Micro Devices to locate here. GlobalFoundries succeeded AMD in 2009 and has since invested roughly $15 billion in the Fab 8 facility, creating thousands of well-paying advanced manufacturing jobs and returns that have added over 18,000 induced/indirect jobs throughout the Capital Region, including Malta.
