Of abundance of caution they wanted to follow the advice of their merl leader and authorize the shooting down of this object. at this point once this operation was under way it was ultimately an american f-22 fighter jet that shot down this unidentified object over canada. now there s still so many questions about what exactly this object entailed including the size, its origin, and its purpose. and a few moments ago the defense minister of canada talked a little bit about what they know at this moment. recovery operations are under way, and will be supported by the canadian armed forces in con junction with the rcmp. this coordinated operation will allow a further investigation into this object. we have no further details about the object at this time other than it appears to be a small cylindrical object and smaller than the one that was downed off ....
Pentagon is that norad had detected the object over alaska actually late friday evening, and then two f-22 fighter jets from alaska monitored the object over u.s. airspace, and then tracked it as it went into canada. now this was obviously the u.s. and canada working very closely together because obviously we have seen these kinds of objects floating around in the area over the last several days. just yesterday the president authorized the shoot-down of yet another object that was flying over alaskan airspace. that was shot down yesterday about ten miles off the coast there. this one we re told they just wanted to wait and monitor it because it was first spotted over alaska, and they did not feel like it was the right time to shoot it down immediately. so they waited to see where it was going. itdented up going over canada it did end up going over canada. u.s. and canadian fire jets working together under the norad hat, they worked together to bring it down. it was ultimately a fight ....
Developing story. reporter: president biden and canadian prime minister justin trudeau took a very rare step on saturday and jointly authorized the shooting down of an unidentified object over northern canada. this marks the third time in just the last week where the u.s. has had to shoot down an aerial object over north america. according to the pentagon, norad first detected this latest object on friday evening over alaska as they monitored it they saw it crossed into canadian air space. the president and canadian prime minister spoke and decided to follow the advice of their military officials and decided to authorize shooting it down. it was at that time that canadian and american fighter jets, through norad, worked together to try to take down this object with ultimately an american f-22 shooting it down. this follows just one day prior on friday when president biden had ordered the shooting-down of another unidentified, unmanned object near the coast of alaska. ....
Later as it entered canadian airspace. dan, i m curious, can you talk us through why it was a u. s. jet that was used, of course, president biden approved this. we know that justin trudeau gave the order. do you have a sense of the mechanics there of how that played out? we don t have a lot. but certainly, as some viewers may not know or may know, that u.s. and canada have a joint aerospace defense command, norad, so they very much jointly defend the airspace of north america. and obviously, the u.s. does have a much larger air force, and there is an air force base in alaska where they started tracking this objects, jets were scrambled their first, and the canadians joined the effort later as it entered canadian airspace. and it might be that the f-22, which is incredibly sophisticated fighter jet, was decided to be the best option in this case, they had fired the missile and took it down. we also don t know how fast this object was moving. if it was moving slowly, they n dan jubut ....
Continuing to work closely with our norad partners and our u.s. partners, and we will make sure that we meet no stone unturned in the analysis of the data that we re now gonna be turning to analyze. just for clarity, i know you mentioned it was downed by u.s. and canadian fighter jets. is that correct? because my understanding i thought it might be just u.s. fighter jets? so, these assets that were deployed deployed were part of the norad capabilities, and they included two f-22 jets from the united states, and to f-18s from canada. ....
