A synagogue in pittsburgh shooting is being investigated as a hate crime. Were expecting the police will update the public on the tragic events this morning in pittsburgh. The gunman is in custody and wounded and made antijewish remarks, comments during the shooting. He has been identified. He is 46yearold Robert Bowers. 46 minutes past the hour right now. good to have you with us. authorities in arizona are looking into how and why a man jumped out of a southwest airlines airplane as it was taxiing at sky harbor international airport. the 30-year-old exited the aircraft through a rear door, then locked himself in a room in a nearby fire station. the captain was forced to stop the aircraft and notify air traffic control. the man was transported to a hospital for a lower extremity injury we re told. the airport hasn t responded to cnn s request for comment though. yikes. so imagine a commercial flight fueled by food. this week united airlines completed a successful flight from corn to d.c. run by corn
presbyterian with extremity injuries that are doing much better and not in critical condition. and there is one patient at upmc mercy who had an extremity injury that received an operative intervention and is actually recovering. earlier this morning, i saw a report that a chaplain the from u upmc was one of those that was injured. can you tell us anything about him. you alluded to that 70-year-old. i wonder if that s the man to whom you re referring? that is the man who i m referring. he s a 70-year-old chaplain here at umpc presbyterian and served in a capacity at the synagogue. he had the most critical injuries and wounds and given his age, will likely have the longest challenge to recovery. but he s also showing some signs of response to the treatment. i want to get your perspective. you ve been focusing on this as aically natio icallclinician, at as somebody who lives in pittsburgh, i want to get your reaction, dr. yealy, to what you saw here yesterday? this was our family
had an extremity injury that required intervention and evaluation in the operating room. again, that officer is doing fine. happy to answer any questions if you have those. did it seem like perhaps any sort of special type of bullets may have been used that would create any extra damage or something to that extent? i don t have any direct knowledge about that, but not from the injury pattern it did not appear that way. [ inaudible ] there were some with multiple injuries and some with singular injuries. again, this is something that we re prepared to take care of every day. i m very proud of the team. we had extra physicians available, nurses available to take care of whatever could happen. when we first heard of this, we knew that there were a few patients injured, some dead. we did not know the size and the magnitude of this and so we were prepared to take care of as many as were necessary.
