Security council unanimously approved the new sanctions banning key north korean exports and putting significant limits on foreign investment in north korea. u.s. ambassador to the united nations, nikki haley, spoke out today in full support of the new sanctions. i want to bring in senior united nations correspondent richard roth there. you were there for the vote. what makes the new sanctions different than some of the other measures designed to punish north korea for the nuclear weapons program that we have seen implemented in the past? well, i guess one could say it s perhaps the deepest cut into north korea s export economy where it gets badly needed hard currency for fuel, for its missile, and nuclear test industry. nikki haley, the u.s. ambassador, calls this the most stringent set of sanctions on any country in a generation. we have heard tough talk from recent different administrations that the north korean sanctions are the toughest ever, but nothing seems to deter pyongyang ....

Here during the news conference? i think the two most important issues are going to be on security and trade. security, clearly the threat from russia which is continuing to wage a war in the ukraine and is threatening nato allies in eastern europe. i think chancellor merkel is going to want strong assurances from president trump that the unitommitted to nato. the comments he may direct the campaign of it being obsolete, making american support for nato conditional upon the amount of money its members paid on their militaries, that was very worrying to our european allies, and she s going to want him to come out and say the u.s. stance by nato because it is the bedrock of our alliance. and then on trade, germany a huge export economy, 50% of all german jobs derive from exports, german companies employ over 600,000 americans, and she has brought with her the heads of some very big german corporations, b&w, siemens, all of which have supply chains here in the united states. the protect ....

Merkel and other jernl german leaders. they want the rest of europe to get the sense, well, germans will cough up money but if you behave more german or thriftier. that is the stance she has to take politically to sell any kind of bailout in germany. after the election, an increasing realization that germany has as much to lose if not more than any other european country if there is a fracture in the euro zone. a lot of their trading partners are in the euro zone. if they go under, germany s export economy, which is the driver, is going to really suffer. fascinating. you think that this fire in bangladesh in the factory might make us rethink this whole idea of outsourcing manufacturing all over the world. yeah. i did a cover a couple weeks ago with a colleague about the made in america phenomenon and a lot of people were talking about how manufacturing is back and it is back. the jobs haven t come back in mass yet because there are still these big, complex supply chains in places l ....
