Madeira Drive work in Brighton restarts next week


Madeira Drive will continue to be available for organised events.
This latest phase of work hopes to transform Madeira Drive into a space that everyone can enjoy , councillor Amy Heley, chairwoman of the council s Environment, Transport and Sustainability committee (ETS), said.

She also heralded the road s importance as a huge part of the city’s history and said she was delighted to see it being improved.
Councillor Heley said: It’s important that cyclists and pedestrians can travel along the road safely while those who still need to use a car can continue to do so. I’m especially pleased that we’ve been able to increase the number of Blue Badge bays. ....

Brighton School Streets scheme will see drivers prohibited from two roads 'at all times'


The entire length of Florence Place, outside Downs Infants School
Grantham Road outside Downs Junior School, from the junction with Ditchling Road to the junction with Edburton Avenue
Somerhill Road outside Brunswick Primary School, south of the junction with Somerhill Avenue
The council said it is trialling physical measures, to determine which model works best in the long term .
Residents living in or close to these roads have been sent a letter about the measures, which are being installed on a trial basis through Experimental Traffic Regulation Orders.
The restrictions will not apply to:
• residents who live on the street ....

Salisbury city councillor John Lindley resigns from committees in middle of meeting

A CITY councillor resigned from two committees with immediate effect during Tuesday night s extraordinary city council meeting.
Councillor John Lindley, who represents St Paul s, stepped down from both the Planning Committee and the Salisbury Neighbourhood Development Plan Working Group in protest at what he strongly considers to be Cllr John Farquhar s dishonest and dishonourable actions .
Councillor Lindley has since retracted his comments and issued a full apology.
Cllr Lindley had said he was extremely angry that the meeting was the first time that any committee of Salisbury City Council had met to discuss and formulate any response to what he described as the badly flawed Experimental Traffic Regulation Order/Low Traffic Zone - also known as the People Friendly Streets scheme. ....

Public to be consulted on cycle lane changes in Brighton and Hove


CONTROVERSIAL cycle lanes could be extended under new plans which will be put to the public for consultation.
Brighton and Hove City Council recently received £2.376 million from the government’s active travel fund to progress cycle lane schemes, on top of the previous government award of £663,000 in June.
Under the plans, the temporary protected cycle lanes on the A270 Old Shoreham Road would be extended with lanes from the Hangleton Road junction to near the western city border at Applesham Way and Wolseley Road. 
The temporary protected cycle lanes in the A259 Kingsway and Wellington Road would also be extended from Fourth Avenue to the west of the city. ....
