Ilocos workers get 3rd tranche of daily wage increase

MALASIQUI, Pangasinan - The daily wage in the Ilocos Region is now PHP372 for establishments with one to nine workers and PHP400 for those with 10 to 29 employees starting March 1, as part of the third and final tranche of wage hike approved by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board 1 (RTWPB1). In a virtual press conference on Wednesday, RTWPB1 secretary Romina Boado-Cabrillos said Wage Order RB1-21, approved last year, covers all minimum wage earners in the private sector within the region, regardless of their position, designation, or status and irrespective of the method by which their wages are paid. The order, however, exempts establishments in retail or service regularly employing not more than ten workers and establishments adversely affected by natural calamities or human-induced disasters, she added. 9 Ilocos LGUs set up own Barangay Employment Services Office

MALASIQUI, Pangasinan - Eight municipalities and one city in the Ilocos Region have established their own Barangay Employment Services Office (BESO) to help facilitate job seeking for the residents in their communities. In a phone interview on Tuesday, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Ilocos Region information officer Justin Marbella said the eight municipalities are Infanta, Mangatarem, Sual, Urbiztondo and Villasis in Pangasinan, as well as Bacnotan and Naguilian in La Union, and Bacarra in Ilocos Norte. The one city that has its own BESO is Alaminos in Pangasinan, he added. "This is an initiative of the Public Employment Services Office (PESO) starting in 2021," Marbella said. PESO focal person Dionne Cleo Cruz, in a separate interview, urged other local government units to establish their own BESO as well. 86% of Ilocos establishments compliant with labor laws: DOLE

In an interview on Thursday, DOLE-1 information officer Justin Marbella said some 475 establishments were inspected in Ilocos Norte, 609 in Ilocos Sur, 538 in La Union, 280 in western Pangasinan, 322 in central Pangasinan and 282 in eastern Pangasinan.
