Law enforcement officers march to form a guard of honour.
âEver since we received the first tiding of a Covid-19 passing within our municipality, we had to accept the words of Nicholas Sparks who said: âIt is possible to go on. How impossible it may seem.ââ
With these words, Executive Mayor Gesie van Deventer started her remembrance of the two councillors and six officials who have died from Covid-19 since the first cases were identified early last year. They are: Councillors Derrick Hendrickse and Manie Pietersen, Kwanele Gugushe, Nnozigagana Kondile, Thandiwe Metshane, Christopher Nyangiwe, Bradley Frank Dyers and Ndawoyakhe Yalezo.

Stellenbosch may become the first municipality in the country to eliminate load shedding as a request to commence with an investigation into the use and generation of alternate electricity energy supplies was adopted by the Stellenbosch Council last Wednesday, 27 January.
“With blackouts and load shedding frequently sweeping across the country due to the energy crisis in South Africa, it has become imperative for municipalities to start investigating alternate energy sources,” said Executive Mayor Gesie van Deventer in a statement.
The promulgation of the Electricity Regulation Act Regulations in October 2020 opened the door for municipalities to start investigating how they can generate their own electricity and purchase electricity from independent power producers (IPP).
