Fewer vaccines given locally Including last Thursday, Alachua County has administered 3,957 vaccines, according to the most recent data, for an average of 565 doses per day. In the week prior, the county administered 4,268 vaccines, for an average of 711 doses per day. There is a lag between when vaccinations take place and when they’re uploaded to the state’s database. So far, 101,278 local residents are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and another 22,828 have received their first dose meaning 37.6% of the county has been fully vaccinated, using the U.S. Census Bureau s 2019 population estimate. ....
Two Alachua County residents who were infected with the B.1.1.7 United Kingdom strain of COVID-19 have been hospitalized, according to state health department data. The residents include a 55-year-old man and 36-year-old woman, and additional information on their conditions was not available Thursday afternoon. The number of local COVID-19 variant cases has increased in recent weeks, from 90 on May 5 to 111 on Thursday. Surrounding counties also have identified cases of the same variants found in Alachua County, including: Marion (120), Clay (67), Putnam (20), Levy (20), Columbia (11), Suwannee (9), Bradford (4), Dixie (4), Union (3) and Gilchrist (2).
