Action against a nursery which they claim discriminated against their two year old daughter. the couple say the little scholars nursery in dundee told them it had no availability for their daughter but applications submitted by friends and family with white sounding scottish names were accepted. they re now making a claim under the equality act. the nursery says it will respond in due course and says it s saddened anyone would think it was not open and inclusive. british firefighters are among more than 1,000 from across europe helping to battle wildfires on greece s second largest island, evia. thousands of people have been evacuated since the blaze started a week ago. meanwhile, in california, rescue workers are preparing for even higher temperatures, as they tackle the second largest fire in the state s history. lebo diseko reports. the apocalyptic scenes of what the greek prime minister has called a nightmarish summer. nearly 600 fires have broken out ....

Nearly 600 fires have broken out across the country since latejuly, fuelled by strong winds and the worst heatwave in decades. the biggest is in evia, an island north east of athens, which has been ablaze for a week. help has been flown in by other countries, including british firefighters. i haven t seen fires like this before in the uk, it s something that s completely new to me. i ve seen grass fires and open area fires, but this is just something on another scale. they are helping with manual tools, trying to put in fire breaks and stopping the fire from spreading. there has been public anger at the government response, something the greek prime minister has apologised for. but he says climate change is causing fires that last for weeks, speaking just hours after the un warned that human activity is making extreme weather events more common. something locals say they are experiencing first hand. we didn t see any rain to stop this fire. i used to run in this forest, ....

Our europe correspondent bethany bell has more from the greek island of evia. as you can see, this hillside is black, charred, the trees have been killed and things are really looking bleak here. elsewhere on evia, the fires are still raging, out of control, and they are trying to put them out with helicopters and planes dropping great quantities on the hillside to try and extinguish the flames. but it has really been an uphill struggle because the hot temperatures, extremely hot, that greece has been facing, have not helped, because all of the ground is so tinder dry it makes things extremely difficult. the locals here are saying they feel abandoned by the government, they say there is climate change, clearly, which is a factor in these wildfires, but they say also not enough has been done to help in terms of trying to protect these forests. the government says it is doing ....
