I must admit, I didnt do what I had proposed in my application, and it was the best decision I made. I had written that I would work on some of my video projects, which the residency time away from New York could have provided. But even before I left for Venice, I realized I needed to do some things that situated me specifically in the placethe uniqueness of Venicerather than working on video footage that has nothing particular to do with this magical place that I could easily work on back in NYC. And so I began to envision how better to take advantage of being in Venice during that month.
