As a reminder, Exploration Day is designed to give students a day off from classes and homework. Regular undergraduate courses will not meet; however, due to scheduling challenges, labs will still be held. These pieces were the focus of a fall sabbatical focused on euphonium performance and recording. Resulting recordings will be forthcoming. The quarantine resulted in a shift to unaccompanied music reflected in this recital. This short program opens with the three much loved etudes du style from Théo Charlier’s 1925, 36 Études Transcendantes for trumpet. These are contrasted by Norwegian composer Torstein Aagaard-Nilsen’s 4 Lyriske Stykker. These four lyric pieces originally for euphonium were written in 1989 and revised in 1995. The recital concludes with a collection of movements from J. S. Bach’s third and fifth suites for ‘cello. This program is free a ....
