Second person charged six months after body found in Red River


 
WINNIPEG
Winnipeg police have arrested and charged a second person in connection with a homicide investigation after a body was found in the Red River in October 2020.
Police said 21-year-old Evan Daniel Bill Brightnose-Baker was arrested on a warrant for second-degree murder, in addition to three additional warrants, at a home in the William Whyte neighbourhood. The charge has not been proven in court.
The arrest comes more than six months after the body of 29-year-old Mohamed Mohiadin Ahmed was found in the Red River. Police said a person had been walking their dog near Churchill Drive and Hay Street, when they found the body on Oct. 12, 2020. ....

Second suspect charged in October 2020 death of Mohamed Mohiadin Ahmed


Brightnose-Baker was arrested at a residence in the William Whyte neighbhourhood.
Previously, police arrested and charged Jesse James Daher, 28, of Winnipeg. He is also in custody and facing a second-degree murder charge.
At shortly after 8 a.m. on Oct. 12, 2020, officers were called to the area of Churchill Drive near the Manitoba Canoe and Kayak Centre after a passerby called to report a body in the Red River.
The next day police identified the victim as Mohamed Mohiadin Ahmed.

Executing arrest warrants nets bigger fish for Winnipeg Police

Winnipeg police came out with a bigger fish than they were expecting to land Saturday after about an eight-hour ordeal on McGee Street. In addition to the two men they came for, police also collared a suspect in a homicide from last October who had been sought on a Canada-wide warrant.
Officers went to a residence in the 600 block of McGee near Wellington Street shortly after 11 a.m. to serve outstanding arrest warrants on a pair of 37-year-old males from Winnipeg.
