we start with news that will have implications for europe s energy supply this winter. the russian energy giant gazprom says it has found a new problem in its key gas pipeline to europe, which had been due to reopen on saturday. gazprom says it s detected an oil leak in a turbine on the nord stream one pipeline, meaning it will remain closed for an indefinite period. the pipeline has already been completely shut for three days for what gazprom described as maintenance work. moscow denies weaponising energy supplies in retaliation for western sanctions. russia s move to keep the nordstream pipeline closed may or may not be linked to a decision by the g7 group of the world s leading democracies to put a cap on how much they pay for russian oil, in a bid to hit moscow s ability to finance the war in ukraine. the price of oil has risen sharply since the invasion, meaning its revenues have gone up even as some countries cut back on the amount of russian oil they import. the ca
you don t have nato on board and europe on board with sanctions and some incursions are okay and others aren t to them, there is not so much the u.s. can do? no, it is not true. it is accurate to say the various nato countries are not necessarily in the same place. it is not accurate to say that absent all of the nato country being 100% on board there isn t anything we can do. there is a lot the u.s. can do. there is a lot we can do with the allies in nato who support us in terms of how aggressive the economic sanctions are. they have not been as aggressive as they could be. in terms of outright canceling nord stream 2, which, you know, we can certainly put pressure on germany to do, which we could put sanctions in place that would effectively do. and do you believe germany would do that? that would really hurt them. that is why i just said either we persuade germany to do it or we can impose the sanctions that would make it happen anyway. there are options there. the last point
in the keystone xl pipeline would carry a hundred thousand oils a day to the united states and 900,000 barrels, she said of the climate change ideology and they are arguing a shift to clean energy, that s another debate clean or green is something that they see as a solution to this crisis now which is a ludicrous assertion given solar, wind another forms of energy available that don t compare in terms of keeping their economy running. joey: charlie and gary come to you i have a similar question. it really turns domestic at that point. katie was sitting on it we quit producing oil and being energy independent, that put us in a tough place to sanction russia and get the rest of europe on board with us. now we get a look at the
busy monday. i appreciate it. good to see you. good to see you. i do want to start with that question, the discussions behind the scenes about a ban on russian oil. it is our understanding that there have been some hurdles to the u.s. getting europe on board, its european partners on board. is it your sense that the u.s. will have to go it alone? we may have to go it alone on this. i strongly support the ban on russian energy products, like oil. remember, we ve asked our european friends and the biden has been very strong at bringing those european partners along. we got germany to get rid nordstream 2, they import about four million barrels a day from russia, we import a few hundred
if he had issued an air strike, it s risky business, right? iran has a strong presence across the region, they fund armed trained militias and terrorist organizations in lebanon, syria, iraq, next to where we have u.s. assets, u.s. troops. where we ended up was the worst of both worlds. now we ve ended in this situation where everyone is wondering the next steps. the united states has called for a security council meeting on monday, which probably means they re calling for greater attention to the issue. maybe they ll try and follow up with a resolution. but my guess right now is they re trying to rally the troops. but if iran is iran emboldened? what would that look like to us? they may be emboldened on the fact that they think president trump is bluffing. if he ever says again i m going to use military force, they may not believe it. on the other hand the economic sanctions are having a significant effect, even without europe on board.
