Let me tell you what happened in 2001. I had the great privilege to serve as moderator for a session on pastime, baseball is history at the organization for american historians. Its viewed as a series, political setback for dr. King and in part because there had been absolutely no white violence whatsoever against black demonstrators in albany. As long as Civil Rights Activists were just being quietly and respectfully jailed, the media didnt really care about that story. King knew he had to get the movement back on track. And to really make this notion of nonviolence work, he had to find a place where there would be resistance, where people could really see the ugliness of what they were confronting. He recognized that nothing was going to change until and unless most americans were exposed to the reality of what was going on. The new nightly curfew expired in the small midwestern city that in the past scene has been the scene of protest, violence, tension and pain. This morning, there appears to be calm. But last night was a different scene. The curfew. Declared yesterday by jay nixon in a press conference set in at midnight. From the curfew hit about 100 to 150 demonstrators hit in the street continuing to protest the shooting death of Michael Brown, the unarmed africanamerican 18yearold who was killed by a Police Officer more than a week ago. About an hour later, police in tactical riot gear moved in. Police fired tear baincluding o Person Holding a handgun. Seven people were arrested for failure to disperse. Police say one person was shot in the area last night and this morning is in the hospital in Critical Condition. The circumstances of the shooting remain unclear. Including any information about the shooter. Captain ron johnson of th
