A GLASGOW councillor who tweeted about Scotland hating the UK has said her family has received threats as she reiterated her apology.
Councillor Rhiannon Spear, who chairs the city’s education committee, faced a backlash last month after her Twitter comment during the Eurovision Song Contest final.
When the committee met today, Tory councillor Euan Blockley asked her to consider her position as chairwoman, saying he had received complaints from parents.
After the UK finished in last place during the contest, Cllr Spear had tweeted: “It’s ok Europe, we hate the United Kingdom too. Love Scotland.” ....

AN SNP councillor who tweeted about Scotland hating the UK during Eurovision has said her family has received threats as she reiterated her apology.
Rhiannon Spear, who chairs the Glasgow’s education committee, faced a backlash last month after her Twitter comment during the song contest final which saw the UK entrant receive zero points.

AN SNP councillor has been slammed and apologised for her Eurovision tweet stating “we hate the United Kingdom too” which was later deleted. 
Rhiannon Spear, convener of Glasgow s education committee, was slammed for her tweet last night in relation to the UK failing to score points at the Eurovision Song Contest.

The UK finished last out of all 26 countries taking part - completely snubbed by other countries.
Ms Spear, who represents the Greater Pollok ward in Glasgow, wrote: It s ok Europe we hate the United Kingdom too. Love, Scotland.
The Scottish Conservatives have criticised the Glasgow city councillor saying it is another example of the SNP’s “toxic obsession with division”. ....

SNP's Kaukab Stewart becomes first woman of colour elected to Holyrood


Nicola Sturgeon applauded Stewart as she arrived at the count to congratulate her new parliamentary colleague.
She said: “I have never wanted to hug someone so much in my life,” the First Minister said, adding she was “thrilled beyond words” at the result.
“It has taken us far too long, more than 20 years, but today she becomes the first woman of colour to be elected to our national Parliament,” she said.
“Party politics aside this is a really special and a very significant moment for Scotland and I could not be prouder right now.”
Glasgow Kelvin had been a key seat for the SNP to hold – and Stewart comfortably saw off a challenge from the Green’s co-leader Patrick Harvie who was bidding to become the first from his party to win a constituency seat in Scotland. ....
