Australia's First Gas-Hydrogen Hybrid Power Station to Help Replace Coal

Australia’s First Gas-Hydrogen Hybrid Power Station to Help Replace Coal
New South Wales has secured an $83 million (US$64 million) gas-hydrogen hybrid power station, Tallawarra B, following the planned closure of the Liddell coal-fired power plant in 2023.
The closure of Liddell was announced in 2019 and will see the exit of 1,680 MW of reliable energy from the power grid, which forced the NSW government to scramble for alternative sources of power and set a target of 1,000 MW to replace the loss in energy capacity partially.
EnergyAustralia’s Tallawarra B will contribute 316 MW of capacity to the National Electricity Market, playing a crucial role in Liddell’s replacement. ....

$540 Million Towards Hydrogen and Carbon Capture Is ‘Essential for Australia’s Future’: Australian PM
I want Australia and hydrogen technology to be synonymous around the world
The Australian government has announced it will allocate around $540 million (US$420 million) towards hydrogen and carbon capture projects.
As part of the budget for the next fiscal year, the investment will see the development of clean energy technologies that reduce carbon emissions. It is estimated to create around 2,500 jobs for Australia.
“It is essential we position Australia to succeed by investing now in the technologies that will support our industries into the future, with lower emissions energy that can support Australian jobs,” Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said. ....

I Will Not Tax Our Industries ‘Off the Planet’ for Net Zero: Australian PM
Australia to Innovate its Way to Net Zero Instead
Prime Minister Scott Morrison has vowed to protect industry from “punishing” climate change taxes as the government sets a tentative net-zero target of 2050.
Just days away from a global climate summit, to be chaired by U.S. President Joe Biden, Morrison said Australia would chart its “own course” on how to transition to renewable energy, noting that the key was to change the energy mix over the next 30 years.
“The key to meeting our climate change ambitions is commercialisation of low emissions technology,” Morrison told a Business Council of Australia dinner on Monday. “We are not going to meet our climate change targets through punishing taxes. I am not going to tax our industries off the planet.” ....
