Asatru group meeting on former Methodist church property in Linden

LINDEN A pagan organization that says it wants to ensure the survival of white people has a meeting place in Cumberland County.
The Asatru Folk Assembly excludes non-white members and has been designated a racist, hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
The religious group is worshipping the Norse god Thor in a building where generations of families sang gospel hymns and heard Christian sermons. The organization was given property that started as Parker’s Grove Methodist Church more than 145 years ago.
The property in the 4400 block of Linden Road is owned by Asatru Folk Assembly Inc., which is based in Tallahassee, Florida, according to county property records. It was given to the organization on June 8 after it was bought from Parker’s Grove Methodist Church by Svan Herul for $75,000 on April 1, the records say. ....

The Murdock, Minnesota, city council voted 3-1 earlier this month to issue a permit allowing the Asatru Folk Assembly to occupy space previously held by a Lutheran church.
The church, which only allows members who are white, has drawn concern from residents, who have turned to a town Facebook page to express confusion and distress over their new neighbors, NBC News reported.
The Southern Poverty Law Center classifies the Asatru Folk Assembly as perhaps the largest Neo-Völkisch group in the US, which it defines as one that is organized around ethnocentricity and archaic notions of gender. ....

The town of Murdock s city council voted 3-1 last week to grant a conditional use permit to the group that practices a pre-Christian folk religion that worships Norse gods. More than 120,000 signatures collected to stop 'whites only' church in Minnesota town

An online petition to stop the opening of a church by a whites only religious organization in a Minnesota town has obtained more than 120,000 signatures as of Wednesday.
The petition comes after the city council of Murdock, Minn., earlier this month approved a conditional permit to allow use of a church building bought by the Asatru Folk Assembly.
The Southern Poverty Law Center labels the organization as a “neo-Volkisch hate group” that couches “their bigotry in baseless claims of bloodlines grounding the superiority of one’s white identity.”

By Wednesday, a Change.org petition seeking to stop the group from occupying the building in the farming town of 280 people had received approximately 122,300 signatures. ....

Minnesota Town Votes to Permit Aryan, 'White People' Church

On Dec. 9, the City Council of Murdock, Minn., voted to allow a religious group that believes in Aryan religiosity and the preservation of white, ethnic European folk to use a former Lutheran church as its gathering hall.
The four City Council members voted anonymously, 3 to 1, to allow the whites-only group, the Asatru Folk Assembly, to practice its religion at the church.
