Muslim League’s Ashraf leads in Manjeshwar

Manjeshwar, May 2: Indian Union Muslim League (IUML)’s AKM Ashraf is facing competition from Bharatiya Janata Party leader (BJP) K Surendran and Left Democratic Front (LDF)’s VV Rameshan.
After a single phase of polling on April 6, amid the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, counting of votes is underway in Kerala. Trends suggest that Ashraf is leading Surendran by 1,355 votes in Manjeshwar assembly constituency.
It is to be noted that counting is in progress and the lead stands to sway
IUML’s PB Abdul Razak had defeated BJP’s Surendran by a narrow margin of just 89 votes in the 2016 Assembly elections in Kerala. Abdul Razak had polled 56,870 votes in 2016 as against K Surendran’s 56,781 votes. After Razak passed away, by-polls were held and UDF had managed to retain the seat.
At least 18 covid patients killed in fire at hospital in Gujarat s Bharuch

Ahmadabad, May 1: At least 18 coronavirus patients died after a fire broke out at a hospital in Gujarat s Bharuch in the early hours on Saturday.
Gut-wrenching visuals of the tragedy showed remains of some patients roasted alive on stretchers and beds.
There were around 50 other patients at the four- storeyed Welfare Hospital when the fire broke out in the Covid-19 ward at 1 am. They were rescued by locals and firefighters, an official said. As per information at 6.30 am, the death toll in the tragedy stood at 18. Immediately after the fire, we had confirmation of 12 deaths, a police official told PTI.
Saudi forces destroy booby-trapped boat in Red Sea near Yanbu port

Dubai, Apr 27: Saudi forces intercepted and destroyed a remote-controlled booby-trapped boat in the Red Sea near the port of Yanbu, Al Arabiya reported on Tuesday.
Saudi naval units spotted the booby-trapped boat this morning and destroyed it, the report said.
Security firm Dryad Global had earlier said it received “unconfirmed reports” that a vessel, possibly the oil tanker NCC Dammam owned by a unit of Saudi firm Bahri, had been attacked off Yanbu.
Chief executive Abdullah Aldubaikhi told Reuters that no vessels owned by National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia (Bahri) had been attacked.
