India s lunar mission, Chandrayaan-3, has suffered a setback as the lander and rover have not reawakened after their soft landing on the Moon s surface in August. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) remains hopeful that they may reestablish contact, as even a brief reconnection would allow for further experiments. The mission has already collected valuable data, including the detection of sulfur and temperature measurements, as well as insights into lunar soil properties. ....
Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), S. Somanath, has stated that the Vikram lander of the country s latest lunar mission, Chandrayaan-3, will still be able to land on the Moon s surface, even if two of its engines are not operational. Somanath stated that the sensors and instrumentation of the lander have been designed to handle failures, although he admitted that the key challenge will involve getting the lander to move from a horizontal position to a vertical stance, a process it failed to complete during the Chandrayaan-2 mission. ....
