the violence was second only to that of mississippi. the citizen s arrest law helped eskew some of that violence. what a terrible old law. the problem is, that law was still on the books in 2021. this spring, the state of m georgia repealed that law and it only happened because of a tragedy that took place in february of 2020. it was then that three white georgia men chased down a 25-year-old ahmaud arbery while he was jogging through their neighborhood. when he didn t stop, when they n ordered him to, they trapped him with their trucks and shot him dead. they claimed they were attempting a citizen s arrest. they say they assumed arbery was responsible for local thefts they had been hearing about for weeks before seeing arbery jog by. they just assumed it was him. they did not investigate. they did not have evidence. they assumed it was him and assumed they had the right to capture this black man to make a citizen s arrest. when georgia governor kemp finally repealed that civil war era
seeing a doctor and all sorts of other conditions they had been through. personally i m hoping that those scenes will not repeat themselves now and that the taliban will put their money where their mouth is about looking after women s rights. eskew and plenty of skeptics want to be proven wrong on that front. thank you for the early-morning reporting. human remains discovered in the wheel well of that maskless air force cargo plane that took off from cobbles airport on monday. desperate afghans clinging to its doors and future laws. the plane had been impounded and the air force dictates they got to investigate it. here in washington white house correspondent kevin corke is tracking the latest reaction to the crisis in afghanistan. good evening, kevin. good evening. i stand squarely behind my decision, six words that forever will be seared into the memory of all americans who ve been watching the unfolding drama play out in afghanistan over the
and make this an issue on which they will run. the fact is democrats are going to have to eskew the legacy of bill clinton and go at the question of racial equality. on the issue of policy, one of the things that hamstrings the obama campaign is they have made essentially no policy on welfare issues. at least nothing that sparked this. the waiver of the request they have granted from the republican governors is a very mild change to this policy that will play out differently in different states depending on whether or not they get the waivers, whether or not they use them. and it doesn t have any national political implications because there is no national policy change except to give states a little more flexibility. president obama isn t doing something here he is campaign on. the attack seems to be the act and not the policy. absolutely. i think those are the two pieces. on one side, there s a policy point here where the president is actually contributing to a
economic issues into simple ordinary terms, people can understand and made a great case for the package and it was interesting, in contrast to president obama s press conference earlier in the week, he basically said, although he said good things about the package and gave the correct economic argues groument argument, i had to do this, they are hostage takers and sanctimonious and it was an incredible contrast but i believe, if the president is re-elected, the people who write the books, on it will show this week as the week things started to turn in around for him with the deal and the fact that the white house seems to have gotten over its kind of clinton phobia where they used to eskew everything and every strategy he did and now, they realize there is something to learn from what bill clinton did when he had the divided government and they called him in and talked to him and walked down to the press conference and obama shows he has no problem with that. a good sign about a lead
