FRIENDS of St Mary’s Church in Carleton are busy creating - in their own homes, because of the coronavirus, a 7ft tall nativity banner which will take pride of place at its outdoor Christmas Eve service this year. Craven artist, Alison Gaynor, joined forces with parishioners from St Mary’s to develop the design. Pupils from next door Carleton Endowed Primary School, and others throughout the village, have been busy cross stitching stars to twinkle in the banner’s ‘night sky’. Meanwhile, clever folk from the village’s knit ‘n’ natter group, the choir and other villagers are independently creating the super size traditional nativity stable scene, from fabric. ....
