Investigative journalist, Manasseh Azuri Awuni, says he was grateful to God Kwame Nkrumah led Ghana to independence.
Nkrumah, a nationalist leader led the Gold Coast’s drive for independence from Britain and presided over its emergence as the new nation of Ghana.

2020 in Review: Journalists arrested, harassed for their work in 2020 The whole of chapter 12 of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution is dedicated to ensure the freedom and independence of the media. Over the years, media rights organisations and institutions have advocated for the creation of an enabling environment for persons in the media to practice freely and governments over the years have also played various roles in ensuring same. However, there has been recurrent records of attacks, intimidation, arrests and sometimes assassination of journalists in the country. GhanaWeb as part of its assessment of 2020 has put together a list of journalists who were victims of the aforementioned during the year:
Fears are rising for the safety of GTV journalist Abdul Hayi Moomen after he was threatened by an unidentified gang.
Though the motive behind the threats is not immediately known, the former drive-time host of Tamale-based North Star FM said he has since reported the matter to the police.
Mr Moomen who posted a picture of two of the gang facing a vehicle subsequently shared a chilling message on Facebook.
“I have lodged an official complaint to the Nima police. But should anything happen to me or any member of my family, please help them to track the guy in black (it’s the best shot I could get of him under the circumstances). He and his friends have threatened to deal with me,” he wrote.
The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA is demanding of the Ghana Police Service to investigate, arrest and prosecute as swiftly and decisively as possible, anyone behind death threats to freelance investigative journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuni.
Manasseh says he received the threat, the latest in what has virtually become a routine, via email on Christmas Day in which the author serves notice that he will be eliminated, and that he was “lucky to still be walking a free man.”
The insipid letter warns in part; “Let me tell you Manasseh or whatever you call yourself, we the good citizens of Ghana will not sit down for a few miscreants like you to destroy that beautiful country. If condition demands that we eliminate rats like you, we will not relent on our oars to do exactly that.
