TUCSON, Ariz. (BRAIN) As the supplier community gathers in Tucson this week for the Bicycle Leadership Conference, two independent retailers are adding to the attendance of about 275. These two are Ken “Woody” Smith, who has seven stores in the Dallas/Fort Worth market, and Erik Saltvold, who has 34 stores in nine predominantly Midwestern states.
While state law requires e-bike riders to be 15-years-old, authorities around Lake Minnetonka have stopped 39 riders for reckless operation since late April and 26 of those were kids under the age of 15.
Bike retailers around Minnesota say e-bike sales have surged in recent years. And they expect further growth now that Minnesota has joined the increasing number of states and cities to pass e-bike rebate programs.
MINNEAPOLIS (BRAIN) Erik's Bike Shop is now authorized to ship Specialized bikes purchased from its website directly to consumers in the U.S. Direct-to-consumer Specialized bikes previously were only available through the brand's website.

State Rep. John Thompson was found to have a Wisconsin-issued driver s license and suspended driving privileges in Minnesota ( Hold Thompson accountable, editorial, July 13). The license was suspended because he failed to stay current on his court-ordered child support payments. These two elements, alone, show that Thompson is a scofflaw. But the fact that Thompson is a member of the Minnesota House yet seemingly has residency in Wisconsin reveals that Thompson has contempt for all the rules that the rest of must follow.
