Survivors of solitary confinement, New York State legislators, family members of people in solitary and other advocates held a rally on October 2, 2019 outside Governor Andrew Cuomo s office in Manhattan.
NEW YORK New York City inmates will get a minimum of 10 hours outside their cells an increase of six hours with five hours of daily programming, according to rules proposed by the city’s Board of Correction.
Those in solitary will also follow individualized behavioral support plans, and work with case managers to help better cope while behind bars. ....

In battle against climate change, courts become a new frontier

People, including children and indigenous communities, are increasingly turning to the courts to compel governments and businesses to respect and accelerate commitments on climate change.
According to a report from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), published today, the number of climate change litigation cases has surged in the last four years and now stands at 1,550 in 38 countries (39 including the courts of the European Union).
As of 1 July 2020, some 1,200 of these cases were filed in the United States and 350 in all other countries combined.
