Rock star to classroom: Erie native Vrenna teaches after years on road

There are two painted portraits of Chris Vrenna hanging in his living room in Alabama. One features the Erie native and 1985 McDowell High School graduate with tightly cropped platinum-blonde hair, and the other much darker in every aspect depicts him with long jet-black locks framing his face. The significance of the paintings becomes evident once you see the signatures and personal messages inscribed by the artists: David Bowie and Marilyn Manson, respectively.
If these decorations are a hint to a life lived at the highest echelons of the music industry, the Grammy Award and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame trophy sitting atop a bookshelf across the room leave no doubt about the success of Vrenna’s career. It’s a career that has taken the 54-year-old around the world, playing drums with Nine Inch Nails (1989-1997), keyboards and drums for Marilyn Manson (2004-2011), and touring with Gnarls Barkley as their drummer in 2006 as their single “Crazy” was topping the chart ....
