The nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, one of 11 in the nation s fleet, will set course for Sinclair Inlet in mid-July, its commander, Capt. Eric J. Anduze, told the Kitsap Sun in an interview. We re all eager to come and explore the Pacific Northwest, said Anduze, who previously served as executive officer of the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier that departed Bremerton last summer following a similar shipyard overhaul to the one awaiting the Roosevelt.
Many of the 3,000 or so sailors that are stationed aboard the TR are already arriving on the Kitsap Peninsula, moving to the area ahead of the ship s arrival in mid-July. Anduze said he expects about 1,000 families to relocate here with those sailors.

The Navy said it was conducting search-and-rescue operations over the weekend for a San Antonio sailor who is believed to have fallen overboard off the California coast nearly three days ago, but his father said Saturday night he fears his son is dead.
The search for Aviation Ordnanceman Airman Apprentice Ethan Goolsby, 20, who served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt, began after a lookout spotted what appeared to be a person in the water Thursday.
His father, Kelly Goolsby, said he will have been missing for 72 hours as of Sunday morning without protective clothing or safety gear.

Search and rescue efforts are still underway Saturday for a missing San Antonio sailor from the USS Theodore Roosevelt off the Southern California coast.
The Navy’s investigation is revealing more details about 20-year-old Ethan Goolsby’s whereabouts prior to his disappearance. The search for Goolsby began Thursday after a lookout spotted what appeared to be a person in the water, according to a previous KSAT 12 report.
