The nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, one of 11 in the nation's fleet, will set course for Sinclair Inlet in mid-July, its commander, Capt. Eric J. Anduze, told the Kitsap Sun in an interview.
"We're all eager to come and explore the Pacific Northwest," said Anduze, who previously served as executive officer of the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier that departed Bremerton last summer following a similar shipyard overhaul to the one awaiting the Roosevelt.
Many of the 3,000 or so sailors that are stationed aboard the "TR" are already arriving on the Kitsap Peninsula, moving to the area ahead of the ship's arrival in mid-July. Anduze said he expects about 1,000 families to relocate here with those sailors.
