A man who escaped the Nazis has donated a sizeable chunk of his wealth to a village in France which protected him and his family from being terrorised by Hitler’s regime.
Eric Schwam, who died on Christmas Day, unexpectedly revealed he wanted to give around €2m (£1.8m) to Le Chambon-sur-Lignon which is located in the mountains in southeastern France. ....

Eric Schwam died aged 90 on 25 December last year. His will contained a surprise gift for Chambon-sur-Lignon, a small town on a remote mountain plateau in southeast France.
It s a large amount for the village, Mayor Jean-Michel Eyraud said, while declining to say exactly how much since the will is still being sorted out. ....

Eric Schwam, who died aged 90 on December 25, wrote the surprise gift into his will for Chambon-sur-Lignon, located on a remote mountain plateau in southeast France that historically has a large Protestant community known for offering shelter to those in need.

An Austrian man has left a bequest to a French village as a gesture of gratitude decades after residents took in his family during World War Two.
Le Chambon-sur-Lignon, in south-east France, protected thousands of Jews and has a long-standing reputation for shielding people from persecution.
Eric Schwam, who died last month at 90, arrived there with his family in 1943.
The town s mayor says he left the village a large amount in his will, without confirming a figure.
But his mayoral predecessor told local media Mr Schwam had enquired with officials years ago and the total is thought to be about €2m (£1.7m; $2.4m). ....
