Scuderia del Girasole driver Salvatore Tavano made the most of a race with three safety car interventions to claim his second victory of the season opener at Monza at the wheel of his Cupra Leon Competición.
Sunny skies and a dry track welcomed the TCR Italy field for Sunday’s Race 2, with ALM Motorsport’s Mattias Vahtel, at the wheel of a Honda Civic Type-R TCR, on the reversed grid pole position.
At the start Vathel kept the lead, with Jonathan Giacon, driving a Honda Civic Type-R TCR from Tecnodom Sport, and Antti Buri, with a Hyundai i30 N TCR from Target Competition, coming side-by-side at Turn 1, with the Finn going straight but not giving up attacking the leader at La Roggia. ....

Scuderia del Girasole driver Salvatore Tavano stormed to victory in a wet first race of the TCR Italy season opener at Monza behind the wheel of his Cupra Leon Competición,.
At the start Eric Brigliadori was slow off the line, with Tavano going side-by-side with the polesitter. Matteo Poloni managed to not lose traction but it would be Igor Stefanovski, driving a Hyundai from AKK Stefanovski, who took the lead at the first chicane, ahead of Poloni and Jonathan Giacon in a Honda Civic Type-R TCR.
Tavano attacked Giacon on the main straight to take second place and Poloni went straight on at the first chicane, with Aggressive Team Italia’s Kevin Ceccon, at the wheel of a Hyundai i30 N TCR, taking advantage of the various incidents to climb to third place. ....

Reigning TCR Italy champion Salvatore Tavano will be back for the 2021 season with Scuderia del Girasole.
“I am very happy and honored by the trust placed in me, so I can only consider myself lucky to be able to give my best again,” said Tavano.
“The competition is strong, the opponents are fierce, the task increasingly difficult because we have three consecutive titles to defend.”
Tavano will drive a Cupra León Competición this season, just as he did last year when he claimed the title under controversial circumstances. ....

Eric Brigliadori has, just as his title rival of last year Salvatore Tavano, confirmed that he will be back for the 2021 TCR Italy championship season.
“I will be back to attack with Audi and BF Motorsport,” wrote Brigliadori on his social channels.
The Italian will continue to drive an Audi RS 3 LMS for BF Motorsport this year, looking for revenge after being stripped of the 2020 title following a ruling in the Italian Sporting Tribunal.
Brigliadori finished second in the overall standings, four points behind Tavano, having scored two wins and a total of six podium finishes. ....
