Armed police have cordoned off a street in Burnside, in suburban Christchurch.
Police are hunting for a “dangerous” man linked to firearms incident that sparked a large armed police response in Christchurch, cut off access to homes for several hours, and forced two schools into lockdown. Brandon Jarden, 23, is being “actively being” sought by police in relation to the incident in Burnside, shortly before 12pm on Thursday. Police said in a statement he was considered dangerous and should not be approached by the public. Jarden is believed to be driving a silver Toyota Caldina and likely to be in the Canterbury area.

A man who allegedly sparked a large armed police response in Christchurch has been found. A police spokeswoman said just after 10pm on Thursday Brandon Jarden was located by police. Police were searching for him following a firearms incident at a home in the suburb of Burnside shortly before 12pm on Thursday, which caused the lockdown of a school and a daycare centre. “The man will appear in the Christchurch District Court tomorrow facing several charges. These are still being confirmed,” the spokeswoman said
