Fashola reassures public on speedy completion of Third Mainland Bridge, Feb 15 reopening

The Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola on Thursday reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to the speedy completion and reopening of the Third Mainland Bridge to traffic on Feb. 15.
Fashola during an inspection of the bridge assessed ongoing construction work as well as the planned diversion shifts on the bridge which will take effect from Friday, Jan. 15 to Feb. 13.
The minister expressed hope that work on the bridge would be completed, and reopened to traffic on Feb. 15 to enable the government to begin work on the Falomo Bridge. ....

The Ihe community in Awgu local government area of Enugu state has pleaded for legislation that would give legal backing to the establishment of a proposed University of Education in Ihe by the Enugu state government.
Delivering a lead paper on the role of education in community development- a centenary celebration of western education in Ihe, at the 4th Ihe Development Initiative, IDI, Prominent Catholic priest and indigene of the community, Rev Fr Emeka Udeonu expressed confidence in Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s actualization of the proposed university at Ihe. ....

A common feature of the 2020 Christmas celebration in the South-East was massive traffic jams, particularly along federal highways such as in Enugu-Onitsha Expressway and Enugu-Port Harcourt Road.
Our correspondent, who monitored the state of the roads, was caught up in the traffic for several hours at the Enugu end of both federal highways on different dates.
Despite the bad state of the roads in several areas, nevertheless, motorists had no option but to ply them to get to their various destinations. Work is ongoing at one flank of the Enugu-Port Harcourt road where reconstruction of the road has lasted more than five years. ....
