Brunei GDP to grow 2.5 per cent this year, 3 per cent in 2022


BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): Brunei Darussalam’s economy is expected to strengthen in 2021 and 2022 on an improving external environment with a gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 2.5 per cent this year and three per cent next year, according to the Asia Development Bank (ADB) flagship economic publication, Asian Development Outlook (ADO) 2021, released recently.
Growth in 2021 will be supported by a recovery in global demand and higher oil and gas prices, which will boost government revenue and support government consumption. Private consumption is expected to grow as the economy continues to strengthen.
The GDP is forecast to rise in 2021 and 2022, supported by robust export growth from the Hengyi plant and higher oil and gas prices. But increased imports due to the plant’s expansion and continued demand for inputs will temper the trade and the current surpluses in both years. ....

UAE witnessed outcomes of successful strategies to address COVID-19 pandemic
ABU DHABI, 3rd May, 2021 (WAM) In recent months, the UAE has witnessed the outcomes of its successful strategies to address the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which were described as balanced in terms of health and economy.
Under this framework, the UAE has become a successful model of adapting to the new reality, by implementing procedures for ensuring the continuity of education and health systems and the recovery of the economic and commercial sectors, in addition to the partial resumption of tourism and entertainment activities.
Moreover, the UAE recently hosted several events and succeeding in resuming the hosting of global events that were affected by the start of the pandemic in late 2019. UAE's economic growth to be supported by fast vaccine rollout and digital transformation, IIF says


The Central Bank of the UAE reacted quickly to limit the economic fallout from Covid-19, introducing the Targeted Economic Support Scheme offering Dh50 billion of zero-cost collateral funding to banks in March last year, as well as loosening lenders capital and liquidity buffers to ensure money keeps flowing through the economy. The Tess scheme has been extended to June 30 year. It is part of local and federal support packages totalling Dh388bn so far, Minister of Economy Abdulla bin Touq said in December.
The Arab world s second-biggest economy is projected to grow 2.5 per cent this year, rising to 3.6 per cent next year, according to the UAE Central Bank. ....
