Police: Pistol discharges as officers, man fight over gun in honky-tonk district

A pistol discharged early Sunday in Nashville s honky-tonk district as a Hendersonville man fought with two Metro Nashville police officers over the gun.
As a result, Wilfredo Gonzalez III, 25, of Hendersonville is facing two counts of felony aggravated assault against Officers David Studer and Jason Smith, according to a Metro Nashville Police Department news release.
Just before 1 a.m. Sunday, the two uniformed officers, who were working downtown Nashville as part of the police department s Entertainment District Initiative, responded to 2nd Avenue and Broadway for a report of a fight.
They found a man holding down Gonzalez. The man, who left the area, told police that Gonzalez had a gun, police said. There was a pistol lying in the street near Gonzalez and when Studer attempted to pick it up, police say, Gonzalez grabbed it and fought with the two officers over it. ....
