In their regular quarterly meeting, the Baylor Board of Regents participated in the ceremonial groundbreaking of the Memorial to Enslaved Persons, approved funding for the renovation of academic and residential spaces, renewed funding for the Baylor Benefit program, set the 2024-2025 tuition and approved a new computer engineering degree.
"We believe that the incompatibility of Baylor s Christian mission and its roots in chattel slavery requires us to reckon with this legacy," Livingstone said.
A ceremonial groundbreaking of the Memorial to Enslaved Persons was held Friday at Founders Mall, marking the start of phase two of the project, which is expected to be completed by next year.
University leaders and students came together Friday Feb. 23 for the groundbreaking of a memorial representing the unknown enslaved gaps in Baylor history.
