CANYON Prominent regional businessman and philanthropist Stanley Schaeffer will be awarded an honorary doctorate on Saturday by his alma mater, West Texas A&M University.
Schaeffer will be presented an honorary doctorate of business administration during the second of three outdoor, in-person commencement ceremonies at Buffalo Stadium on WT’s Canyon campus. WT will host commencement ceremonies at 9 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday in Buffalo Stadium.
“Stanley has been central to the shaping of the Texas Panhandle’s University, West Texas A&M,” said President Dr. Walter Wendler. “His values and vision align with the long-range plan, WT 125, and we are grateful for his commitment and contributions. CANYON, Texas (KFDA) - West Texas A&M University announced today the Paul and Virginia Engler Foundation teamed up with United Way to help WT students learn responsible giving.
The students used $10,000 in seed money from the foundation to aid local charities after studying their benefits.
A news release says United Way taught them how to analyze information about the nonprofits to decide where to give the money.
“Most students do not have substantial funds to donate to the United Way or other agencies,” said Dr. Amjad Abdullat, dean of the Engler College of Business. “Some students may have received assistance from an agency and they know what it means to receive a gift from others.
