It’s report card time, and four Dallas high schools have made the grade, earning top 100 spots in this year’s prestigious
U.S. News & World Reportrankings of the Best U.S. High Schools. One even merited a special distinction.
Dallas  
School for the Talented and Gifted is the highest-ranked Texas school on the list, earning a spot at No. 13 (slightly down from No. 6 last year). It’s followed closely by
The Science and Engineering Magnet School comes in at No. 39 overall this year, and is also ranked No. 3 nationally among schools that specialize in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math). It is the only Texas school to earn a top five ranking in a special category. ....

Yolanda Young: Caddo schools should model magnet admissions after Texas


Editor s Note: This is the third in a series of three opinion columns about Caddo Middle Magnet s sibling policy.
About a year ago, I began what was to be a three-part series on how the unfairness of Caddo Middle Magnet’s (CMM) sibling policy results in white kids with lower scores getting admitted to magnet schools over Black and white kids with higher scores.
Part 1 addressed how CMM was created for the express purpose of integrating and enhancing the quality of education for local students while redressing Caddo Parish’s racist Jim Crow era school policies. Part 2 demonstrated how that mission has been abandoned as evidenced by CMM now largely educating white students, even though the school district is roughly 70% Black. ....
