EGF council comes up shot on mayoral veto of roundabout

With the clock ticking the East Grand Forks council is going back to the drawing board in trying to decide how to spend $860,000 dollars in federal road money.  The council failed last night to override a mayoral veto on a plan to utilize the federal “subtarget” dollars on a Bygland Road roundabout plan.
Mayor Steve Gander rejected last week’s 4-3 council vote in favor of the roundabout over the reconstruction of 10th Street Northeast.
City Engineer Steve Emery says without a plan of action it may be possible to work with a neighboring city on  future funding.  “The subtarget funds are available every 4 years and they are moved around between us…Thief River Falls…Crookston…and Bemidji.  Those other 3 communities…if one had a project on board and they are ready to move forward with…maybe they could utilize funds in 2022 and we use their funds in 2023.” ....
