Panel recommends no change in flight patterns | News, Sports, Jobs

May 12, 2021 NEW ULM The New Ulm Airport Commission recommended no changes be made to the airport’s flight pattern, Tuesday. Recently the City of New Ulm has been considering making changes to the flight pattern planes make before landing at the New Ulm airport, to reduce noise. The New Ulm City Council and city staff have received many complaints regarding noise at the municipal airport. The city considered altering plane flight paths to reduce the noise. Currently, the flight path into New Ulm’s airport is to enter air space over New Ulm at a 45-degree angle coming from a southeastern direction. A pilot landing at the New Ulm airport will make a series of left-hand turns before approaching the runway. If the plane needs to circle before landing, it will all be done with left-hand turns. NEW ULM Electric scooters will be allowed on the bicycle/walking path around town, at least temporarily. The New Ulm City Council unanimously approved a micromobility vehicle sharing operation license for a company called Bird. Bird will bring 50 electric scooters that can be rented and shared throughout the community. In addition to approving the license, the council adopted a new ordinance regulating micromobility sharing operations. The electric scooters being brought to New Ulm are classified as micromobility vehicles. The city ordinance also identifies bicycles and electric-assisted bicycles as micromobility vehicles.

cschuldt@nujournal.com NEW ULM Air traffic coming into New Ulm could start flying right in the near future. During a New Ulm City Council work session, the council received a presentation on moving the airport’s flight path from a left-hand pattern to a right-hand pattern. This issue came about from complaints regarding plane noise. The city has received several complaints regarding the noise caused by planes flying over the city. City Councilor Les Schultz said the airport is in his ward and he receives a lot of calls about this issue. Many people have asked if the airplanes could find a different approach.
