BUTUAN CITY - Some PHP260.8 million has been earmarked to boost rice production in the Caraga Region this year. The strengthening of rice production is also in line with the directives of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on the stability of rice supply and increased farm household income among rice farmers, Emmylou Presilda, DA-13 information officer, said in an interview on Monday. "Production support services program involves the provision of high-yielding rice seed varieties and fertilizer assistance to our rice farmers," Presilda said. Of the total allocation, some PHP178.9 million will be apportioned for the production support services program in the rice sector in the region. A total of PHP54.4 million will also be allocated for the extension support, education, and training services of the rice program in the region, she added. Emmylou Presilda, DA-13 information officer, told the Philippine News Agency Wednesday that the agency has standby rice seeds that are ready for distribution to the affected areas in the region. "We have standby rice seeds of more than 400 sacks. This will be augmented soonest as we are now validating reports from the field," Presilda said. Two days after Odette made landfall in Mindanao, the DA central office said it will utilize around PHP852.47 million in standby funds to aid the distressed farmers affected by the recent typhoon. A total of PHP6.3 million indemnification fund was released to the families this year that covered around 1,270 hogs hit by the ASF. In a phone interview Friday afternoon, Emmylou Presilda of the Information Office of DA-13 said the releases this year were part of the quick response indemnification fund of the agriculture department for the affected hog raisers in the region. "We concluded our 2021 releases this November through a series of distributions conducted in the different towns with ASF-affected families," Presilda said. A total of PHP1,525,000 in funds were released this month to 105 affected families, she added.
