Gulf Winds Cares Foundation awards $20,000 in scholarship funding Special to Gannett/USA TODAY NETWORK PENSACOLA The Gulf Winds Cares Foundation provided $20,000 in scholarships to four graduating high school seniors. Winfred Brittain, Noah Calvery, Jacob Greeson and Emma Ostrom were each awarded $5,000 to further their education at a higher learning institution. Gulf Winds received 61 applications for the Scholarship Program, designed to support students that are members of Gulf Winds Credit Union in their first year of higher education. “We had a record number of applicants this year,” said Chris Rutledge, CEO/president of Gulf Winds. “The quality of the applications indicates that our future is bright as the next generation of leaders comes into their own.” ....
HUDSON â From the props to the script to, of course, the acting, the work in Pop Up Players starts with its student participants. Thatâs how program leaders Liz Malanaphy and Brian Erdrich want the program to be. The two began the theater group as a way to fill a gap in opportunities for younger students in the area. âWe both kind of recognized that there are a lot of kids in the community who are interested in theater and do want to give it a try, but there wasn t really anything for younger kids around,â Malanaphy said. The program, run through Hudson Community Education, has five or six sessions a year that each run about five weeks, ending with a performance. During COVID, performances have transformed into movies that are filmed on the final day. ....
