The stands of Pauley Pavilion were filled with cardboard cutouts when the Bruins’ class of now-seniors first took the floor in January 2021. Gymnasts couldn’t share chalk or embrace after routines; they all donned masks when not competing and had begun preseason training late in October.
The Bruins start strong but score a 197.050 and finish third behind Denver (197.275) and Arizona State (197.150), both of which advanced to Sunday’s Regional Final at Cal.
After coming close to perfection twice last weekend, Selena Harris finally did it. The sophomore was perfect in her late-night vault in Corvallis. With Harris’ last perfect score coming from last year’s NCAA regionals, she did it again, sticking her Yurchenko 1.5 for the Bruins’ first 10 of the 2024 campaign.
An emphasis on each gymnast being prepared to contribute in any way possible has helped the Bruins build unity and success as they host Arizona on Sunday
After a two-year hiatus, graduate student Emma Andres has become a consistent piece of the Bruins’ beam lineup. While recovering from injuries that kept her out of competition lineups, Andres missed all of UCLA gymnastics’ 2022 season and only performed exhibition routines in 2023.
