Four charged with felonies during violent protests Police have declared riots three time and unlawful assemblies twice over the past week. Felony charges have now been filed against four people arrested during two of the series of violent protests over the past week. The most recent arrests were made on the night of Monday, April 19, when a crowd vandalized numerous business and the nonprofit Blazers Boys and Girls Club in Northeast Portland. According to police, Emily Keppler, 27, was arrested for felony criminal mischief. Emma Lightstone, 27, arrested for felony riot and felony criminal mischief. Before that, the Multnomah County District Attorney s Office announced it had charged Theodore Matthee-O Brien, 22, and Cameron Millar-Griffin, 24, with one count each of felony riot and criminal mischief. The night before, protesters calling for racial justice caused nearly $20,000 in damage to the club, which houses services for mostly Black and brown children and families in Portland. “We totally understand the need to protest and all of the systemic issues that exist in our country around criminal justice reform, around police brutality and system oppression,” Johnson said. “But we ask protesters to make sure they’re considering our mission and the work we do in Black and brown communities, because our mission work is part of that protest.” ....
Apr 20, 2021 A crowd of around 80 people attacked several businesses in Northeast Portland breaking windows and causing other damage. Portland Police say the group gathered in Woodlawn Park. Their notices about the event discouraged use of video streams. While attacking businesses, they used umbrellas to hide who was committing the damage. Portland Police had to send officers from the incident to a homicide that happened at the same time. It was unrelated to the crowd. That response left fewer officers to deal with the crowd. The group broke windows at a Popeye s restaurant, a U.S. Bank and other businesses. They also broke windows of the Boys and Girls club, which is a non-profit organization. ....
