an increased presence on san francisco campuses. erica edwards has l.a. s decision to cancel classes. reporter: buses are not moving, more than 640,000 students from kindergarten through high school were told to stay home. this, after at least one school board member received an electronic bomb threat. i think it is important that i take the pre cauticaution bas what has happened recently and what has happened in the past. now, about 1200 schools are closed while police search every single building. we have chosen to close our schools today until we can be absolutely sure that our campuses are safe. new york city schools also received a threat tuesday, but officials there said the threat was, quote, not credible, and kept schools open. this is not a credible threat, it is not something that we are concerned with. what we would be concerned with is overreacting to it. back in los angeles, the school cafeteria worker said the threat is extremely unsettling. ....
weeks ago. experts say more and more departments are now making this type of change including oakland. the san francisco police officer s union is upset about what it calls a change in working conditions. but experts say the policy makes officers think more seriously about pulling a gun out on someone. san francisco supervisors are saying no to a new jail. last night they unanimously turned down $80 million to help build it. while the supervisors agree that the current main street jail is in bad shape and need a new jail, they say building a new one is not the answer. the supervisors would rather get a new facility that focuses on mental health and substance abuse treatment instead. just seconds ago literally breaking news, the federal open markets committee announced it would raise interest rates by a quarter percent or 25 basis points, fully expected. fed chief janet yellin will hold a press conference in less than half an hour. we will bring that to you live. thi ....
