Among the ideas: using special sprinkler heads for fire hydrants so people could create spray parks in their neighborhoods.
The practice is done in other areas, including Middletown, Conn., where hydrants were turned into spray areas during this week’s heat wave.

MIDDLETOWN As the city endured its fourth day of intense heat and high humidity Wednesday, children enjoyed fire hydrants spraying cold relief right outside their doors.
By late afternoon, temperatures soared to 96 degrees, with a heat index of 99 at Meriden Markham Municipal Airport, according to the National Weather Service.
In many of these locations, residents lack easy access to local swimming areas, which include Wadsworth Falls State Park, Crystal Lake and Veterans Memorial Pool.
