The New Ulm Heritage Preservation Commission (HPC) recommended the demolition of George’s Ballroom after a meeting Monday.
NEW ULM With great sadness, the Heritage Preservation Commission (HPC) recommended the demolition of George’s Ballroom, Monday.
The commission received a report on the need for demolition from several individuals on a committee formed by Brown County to review the issue.
Brown County Auditor-Treasurer Jean Prochniak gave an overview of the ballroom’s legal history and status. She said the state historic preservation society recommended bringing the decision to demolish the building before the local preservation committee before bringing it to the state for approval. ....

The city council by a 4-1 vote agreed to an engineering study for anchor pole design to possibly hang holiday garlands over Minnesota Street again.
NEW ULM –The City of New Ulm will move forward with engineering services to look into designing new poles to support holiday garlands on downtown Minnesota Street.
In 2020, the holiday garlands were not strung across downtown Minnesota street because the anchor points on the buildings no longer support the holiday decorations.
To develop new decorating options, the city formed a garland committee. It was determined that if the city wanted to continue hanging the garlands, new poles will need to be installed at all intersections downtown. Before the poles can be manufactured, an engineering study must be conducted to determine where poles can be placed. Steam tunnels and utility lines run under the downtown area. Certain areas might not support new poles. ....

City council moves forward with new bus, rec center re-roofing | News, Sports, Jobs

NEW ULM The New Ulm City Council approved moving forward with a fixed-route bus service for Brown County.
The city is looking at a fixed-route bus service for residents, employees, visitors and students. The city has partnered with Brown County Heartland Express, the transit service provider that operates demand-response service within New Ulm and all of Brown County.
The fixed-route bus service would run on a set schedule with stops located at major local destinations along a set route through the community.
City Manager Chris Dalton said this was not about approving the specific bus route, but to approve moving forward with it to let Brown County present it to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. ....
