A construction worker was severely injured in the incident, with the victim telling an Ontario sentencing hearing Friday about the physical pain he's been forced to endure.
COLLINGWOOD, ONT. A Collingwood, Ont. man who shot and killed two masked men during a home invasion two years ago is free. The Crown has withdrawn manslaughter charges against 57-year-old Cameron Gardiner for the deaths of 52-year-old Dean Copkov and 42-year-old Donovan Bass. The details of the case were previously under a publication ban that was lifted on Tuesday. According to court documents, Gardiner s lawyers argued the shootings were in self-defence. When I first met Cameron, he was a broken man. He didn t understand why he was in custody. Once he recounted his story, I said, we are going to fight for you, and you need to lead us, said criminal attorney Elliott Willschick.
Lucky? Or unlucky?
Zoolander, his life changed forever.
“Someone kicked in the front door of my townhouse,” said Gardiner. “It was terrifying. They were three big dudes armed with guns. I knew they were not police because two were in balaclavas and one was wearing a clown mask.”
They were not clowning around.
“Come on Cam,” Gardiner said one of them said. “Where’s the money?”
Gardiner said he didn’t know what they were talking about.
But soon after, they headed upstairs to the room where his 19-year-old son sometimes stayed. It turns out the bandits thought what they were seeking was located there since his son unbeknownst to him had been selling marijuana.
