(15-Mar) At today’s pandemic-delayed NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships in Stillwater, Oklahoma, the women of Brigham Young and the men of Northern Arizona were decisive winners in the team competition with 96 and 60 points, respectively, while the individual titles went to Mercy Chelangat of Alabama and Connor Mantz of Brigham Young. These championships –held in warm, sunny and windy weather just two days after the completion of the NCAA Division I Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas– were originally scheduled for November 21, 2020, and had never before been held in the winter. A total of 253 women and 237 men finished today’s races. ....

NCAA Cross-Country Championships - 2021 Highlights and Results

In the men’s 10,000-meter race, BYU’s Conner Mantz became the first American man since 2008 to win the individual cross-country title when he crossed the line first in 29:26. No. 2 Northern Arizona won the team championship with 60 points, claiming the program’s fourth victory in five years. 2019 NCAA champions BYU finished seventh overall.
No. 9 Notre Dame had a breakthrough performance, putting all five scorers in the top 23 finishers for an 87-point total, which locked them up as the runners-up. Oklahoma State, with home course advantage, placed third with 142 points.
The championship, which is usually scheduled for the fall, was postponed as a safety precaution amid the COVID-19 outbreak. ....
