ELKINS Drivers may have been alarmed Friday afternoon when they encountered half a dozen police vehicles with their blue lights flashing parked alongside and in the median of the Beverly Pike Five-lane. Happily, no one was harmed during the emergency situation in fact, it wasn’t even a real emergency.
Law enforcement officers were merely helping out during the conducting of an emergency drill at Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center.
“We are just working to keep our already sharp emergency preparedness skills honed to a keen edge,” the ERCC posted on its Facebook page at 11 a.m. Friday.

ELKINS Several local health facilities have responded to being included in the state Department of Health and Human Resources list, released earlier this week, which claims 165 COVID-19 related deaths had occurred at the facilities on the list but were not properly reported to the state.
A total of 70 facilities were originally included on the DHHR list, including Davis Medical Center in Elkins, where the list claims two of the deaths occurred; Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center, where one of the deaths allegedly occurred; and Grant Rehabilitation and Care Center in Grant County, where one of the deaths allegedly happened.
