Dunmore s War: History events tell story of WV conflict | Recreation

A series of events at West Virginia state parks and historical sites will revisit the significance of Dunmore s War, a struggle that took place in 1774 between Virginia militiamen and Native American tribes of the Ohio River Valley in what is now West Virginia, setting the stage for Revolutionary War struggles on the western frontier. The events will include living history interpreter Doug Wood, who will portray Thomas Ingles, the son of Mary Draper Ingles, who, at age 4, was abducted with his mother by the Shawnee in 1755 at Draper s Meadows, Virginia.

Posted: February 9, 2021 Local conservation and public safety programs get funds Non-profits are receiving more than $11 million from B.C.’s Community Gaming Grants to boost conservation and public safety programs that will benefit British Columbians around the province. A total of 14 projects in the East Kootenay are getting $427,250 in this funding round. Josie Osborne, Minister of Municipal Affairs stated, “This funding ensures community organizations can continue to provide programming to enhance public safety through emergency programs like search and rescue, and to steward and preserve our ecosystems for generations to come.” The province is providing about $4.8 million to 138 environmental organizations in 2020-21. These programs will create opportunities for people to learn about, connect with and protect nature.
